In 1936, Father George Barry Ford re-founded Corpus Christi School in Morningside Heights, New York, and he invited the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa to run the school. Under Ford's leadership, Corpus Christi became a progressive Catholic School, and it was central to his ministry. The school was uniquely positioned within an intricate web of political, religious, and social connections generated by Ford and by the school itself that extended beyond the Catholic Church, such as Ford's relationships with Protestant Social Gospelers, progressive Jewish rabbis, and intellectual and political leaders like Eleanor Roosevelt.
This visualization illustrates professional connections between Father George Barry Ford and the institutions, organizations, and people that surrounded him. The data was collected from both primary and secondary sources, which establish documented contact between the entities. Each circle (node) represents an entity, each line establishes documented contact between the entities (membership in an institution or organization, personal friendship, co-workers, et cetera). The lines are all weighted equally as we don't have the data to quantify the strength of each connection.
To explore the visualization, you can hover on each node to reveal the name of the entity. You can drag the position of the node around to untangle the lines. You can click on each node to highlight the node and all the links to and from the node. Clicking on a node will also list the entity name in a side information box. Clicking on it again will deselect it and clear the information. To deselect all the nodes, click on the 'Unselect All' button.
